Settling in gently
How we help your child feel at home
Starting nursery is a significant transition for the whole family. Our settling programme moves at your child's pace, building trust and familiarity step by step.
We want your little one to walk through our doors feeling safe and excited. That takes time, patience, and genuine partnership between our team and you.
Our promise to you
We will never rush settling. If your child needs more time, we extend the programme at no extra cost until they feel genuinely happy and secure.
Before you start
Welcome call
Your child's key person phones before the first visit. They want to learn about your little one's favourite toys, comfort items, routines, and personality. This means a familiar voice and a prepared room on day one.

Exploring together
You stay throughout this first session. Your child explores with you nearby, meeting their key person and discovering the rooms, toys, and outdoor spaces.
Visit two
A short goodbye
After helping your child settle into play, you step away for a short period. We keep it brief and contact you immediately if needed. Most children barely notice you have gone.
First week
Building confidence gradually
Sessions gradually increase in length as your child grows more comfortable. Their key person focuses on building strong bonds, learning what makes your child laugh, and establishing predictable routines they can trust.
Week two
Finding their rhythm
Your child begins their regular sessions. They know the routines, recognise friendly faces, and have favourite spots to play. We continue sending plenty of updates so you feel connected.
Ongoing
Partnership for the journey
Daily updates via our parent app keep you informed. Parent consultation meetings and termly progress reports ensure we are always working together to support your child's development.

The concerns every parent has before starting nursery
Leaving your child in someone else's care is a big step. Here is how we address the things parents worry about most.
“What if drop-off is really hard?”
Tears at the door are completely normal and we are ready for them. Our settling programme builds familiarity gently, with your child meeting their key person before their first proper day. We send photo updates so you can see them happily playing, and our experienced team knows exactly how to comfort and distract. Most children settle faster than parents expect.
“Will my child just be one of many?”
Every child at Destiny Haven has a dedicated key person who gets to know them deeply. They learn your child's interests, comfort needs, and little quirks. Through our parent app you will see observations that prove your child is truly known. We believe every child is unique, and our care reflects that.
“My child is a fussy eater”
Our fresh, nutritious meals are prepared on site daily by our own cook. We never force food, and children often surprise parents by trying new things when eating alongside friends. We work with you to understand preferences and allergies, and we celebrate small victories together.
“Will they pick up every bug going?”
Some illness is normal as children build immunity. We follow UKHSA guidance on exclusion periods and maintain rigorous hygiene routines throughout the day. If your child becomes unwell, we contact you promptly and keep them comfortable until you arrive.
“What about their sleep routine?”
We have calm spaces designed for rest and quiet activities. You tell us your child's sleep patterns and we follow them. Whether they need a morning nap or afternoon rest, their key person ensures consistency with home routines.
“How will I cope not knowing what is happening?”
Our parent app keeps you connected throughout the day. You will receive photos, updates on meals and naps, and observations of your child's learning. We know that first day is hard for parents too, and we are always happy to send an extra reassurance message.

A safe and secure environment
Our North London settings are designed with safety at their heart. Secure entry systems mean only authorised people can collect your child. Staff are DBS checked and trained in safeguarding and paediatric first aid. Daily safety checks happen before children arrive, and our outdoor areas are fully enclosed.
Open and honest communication
Our one stop parent app covers everything from daily observations to invoices. You will never wonder what your child did today. We welcome questions anytime, and our door is always open for a chat at drop-off or collection.
Experienced, passionate educators
Our team is led by a Qualified Early Years Teacher and supported by experienced, qualified practitioners. We invest in ongoing training and value our staff, which means familiar faces for your child and consistency in their care.
Clear fees and funding support
We accept 15 and 30 hour government funding and explain exactly how it works. Our fee structure is transparent with no hidden costs. We help you understand your entitlements and make the most of available support.
